Digital Engagement Learning Analytics (DELA) as a valuable tool to enhance the student experience

Nine new academic Schools and an increase in the range of demand-led courses has led to a record rise in student numbers. York St John now offers over 100 degree courses, with new options in Games Design, Criminology, Policing Studies and Biomedical Science.

The university joined the Solutionpath customer community in January 2018 to better understand, and improve, the learning experiences of their students.

Solutionpath are the team behind StREAM, a Digital Engagement Learner Analytics (DELA) platform that combines student engagement and learning data from systems such as the VLE, library, e-resources, journals and printing facilities to establish behavioural baselines for students and quickly spot changes that indicate disengagement.

DELA is particularly valuable when teaching at scale, or online, as it can be challenging for staff to understand how their students are learning. York St John will use the solution to analyse patterns of behaviour and if necessary, intervene early to give students the support they need to fulfil their academic potential and have the best student experience.

Andrew Fern, Executive Director of Strategy and Planning at YSJU comments: “York St John University is at the beginning of its Learning Analytics journey. We are delighted to be working with Solutionpath and hope that our adoption of StREAM will enhance our student experience as a result of the new intelligence gained.”
